The History

The charity was created in 2004 when I was 11 years old after I became frustrated that I was too young to volunteer elsewhere.

The Purpose

The purpose of the charity is to create care packages for children entering shelters. These packages are to distract, entertain and comfort the children during this difficult and even frightening time in their lives. It is also to show them that they are cared for.

Who The Packages are Intended For

The packages are intended for babies to 16 year olds, male and female. Some items are also intended for the mothers.

Success

The first year approximately 500 care packages were sent to Interim Place North and South. The second year approximately 1300 care packages were sent to Interim Place North and South and The Salvation Army Honeychurch Family Resource Centre. The third year over 2300 care packages were created and they went to Interim Place North and South, the Salvation Army Honeychurch Family Resource Centre and VCWRS Women’s Resource Center.

The fourth year almost 3000 packages were made and given to the above four shelters as well as two new ones: Woodgreen Red Door and Women’s Habitat. The fifth year included the above shelters and three new ones including Anduhyuan Residences, Native Child and Family Services and the Dam Shelter. The total of 5 years of creating these packages brought the total to date to 10,000 packages!

Other Commitments of the Charity

It is extremely important to me to let other young people know that they too can make a difference in their community as long as they feel passionate about whatever it may be and as long as they never give up. I have been fortunate to have been given the opportunity to speak to young people in the following venues:

  • elementary and high schools
  • Harbourfront Centre during their Brave Young Word Session in October 2007
  • the Glen Angus Country Club as a guest speaker for the Hockey for the Homeless charity banquet dinner
  • the Career Model Days in Mississauga in October 2007
  • and as part of a documentary by SkyWorks about homelessness around the world with the UN ambassador for the homeless, Miloon Kothari
  • Women Who Rock the World conference on March 27, 2008
  • Inspiring Action. A Conference on Social Justice at George Brown College on May 1st, 2008
  • the Holiday Inn for Rotarian Event: “Building Connections; Youth and Rotary” on October 18, 2008

Future Projection

I plan to continue to run this charity as long as supporters continue to support it. If this charity should come to an end I would start another as I feel that there is so much that could be done for this planet and the people and animals on it.

I hope that the above information is helpful and gives you a better insight as to what my charity is all about. A website is being created by the students at my high school and hopefully will be up and running by the end of the summer.
